What is orthodontic treatment with clear aligners?
Clear aligners are a modern way to straighten teeth without brackets or wires. Each lightweight tray is custom-made from a 3D scan, worn 20–22 hours a day, and changed every 1–2 weeks to guide teeth gradually into position. They’re removable for eating and brushing, comfortable to wear, and designed to fit around everyday life.
At Lateral Dental, we use Invisalign® clear aligners planned with precise digital workflows.
What can clear aligners help with?
- Gently improving tooth alignment for a more even smile and balanced bite.
- Closing spaces and relieving crowding in mild to moderate cases.
- Managing bite issues such as overbite, underbite or crossbite to enhance function and reduce wear.
- A discreet option for adults, including those who’ve had previous orthodontic relapse.
- Easy oral hygiene - remove to eat, drink and brush, then pop them back in.

Clear fees, 0% finance options and a retention plan to help keep your new smile aligned long term.

What’s the Invisalign process like – and what can you expect?
Your journey starts with a consultation at our Sheffield clinic with Dr Matthew Stephens, our Sheffield orthodontist. We’ll review your teeth and bite, take an iTero® 3D scan (no messy impressions), discuss your goals and confirm suitability. If Invisalign is right for you, Dr Matthew will map a staged digital plan and show a predicted outcome before you begin, along with clear fees and timing.
When your aligners arrive, you’ll wear them 20–22 hours a day and change to a fresh set every 1–2 weeks. Aligners come out for meals and brushing; water is fine to drink with them in. Where needed, we may use small tooth-coloured attachments or gentle space creation to guide movement precisely. Reviews are typically every 6–8 weeks at our Sheffield practice, with remote check-ins available to keep everything on track.
Throughout treatment, we monitor comfort and fit and answer any questions. If fine-tuning is needed, we’ll arrange refinement aligners. When active movement is complete, we’ll provide a retention plan and explain your wear schedule to help keep your new alignment stable long-term.

See your future smile before treatment starts
At Lateral Dental, our Sheffield orthodontist uses the iTero® 3D scanner at every Invisalign® consultation. This small handheld device captures a highly detailed digital model of your teeth—no trays, no mess and minimal discomfort.
Within minutes, we can show a full 3D image of your current smile and a realistic simulation of your likely outcome with Invisalign. That preview helps you understand what’s possible, while the precise data lets us plan aligners for accurate movement, comfortable fit and efficient timelines.
We also use iTero to monitor progress throughout treatment, checking that teeth are tracking as planned and making refinements when needed. It’s how we keep Invisalign care more precise, more predictable and tailored to you.

FAQs
Thinking of straightening your teeth with Invisalign? Here are some helpful answers from our team to the questions people ask most.
How soon can I start, and what happens at the first visit?
We chat about your goals, check your teeth and bite, and take an iTero® 3D scan. You’ll see a preview and get a clear quote. Once you’re happy, we order your Invisalign®—most patients start within 2–3 weeks.
Do I really have to wear aligners 20–22 hours a day?
Yes—that’s how they work best. Take them out for meals and brushing. If you forget for a bit, don’t panic—just wear them longer that day. We’ll give you simple routines and reminders to keep on track.
I’ve had braces before / I have crowns or an implant—can I still do Invisalign?
Usually, yes. Relapse after braces is common and aligners are great for it. Crowns and fillings are fine; implants don’t move, so we plan around them. We’ll confirm at your Sheffield consultation.
How often are check-ups—do I need to come in a lot?
Reviews are typically every 6–8 weeks at our Sheffield clinic, with some quick remote check-ins between visits if suitable.
What if an aligner doesn’t fit or my teeth stop tracking?
Tell us straight away. We’ll check the fit, adjust the plan if needed and can order refinement aligners—our aim is to keep you moving smoothly toward the result.
How much does it cost and can I spread payments?
Invisalign starts from £3,650. You’ll get an itemised plan and we offer 0% finance to spread the cost (subject to status; T&Cs apply). Retainers and aftercare are discussed up front so there are no surprises.
